The antiquity of Aldeia Velha in the toponomy, is disclosed through some sepultures excavated in the granitic rocks as the ruins of Sabugal Velho, situated in the relief that is seen in the zone, where today installs the population.
The mount that raises to 1019m of altitude, given its privileged strategical position, allowed to glimpse the enemy at a great distance, and that contributed to the population being installed in the lower zone, next to Rio Cesarão, when the incursions of people of east that from the interior of Castile terminated.
Among the monuments of recent History, are distiguished Torre do Relógio, Igreja Paroquial and the Bridge over the Cesarão River.

In the neighborhoods of Aldeia Velha, there are other equally old populations that deserve a visit, as for example, Vilar Maior, Vila do Tourol, Alfaiates, Aldeia do Bispo, Aldeia da Dona among many others.
It is essential to visit the ruins of Sabugal Velho, the village of Sortelha, surrounded by a great wall, the castle of Sabugal and the fisheries of trouts of Rio Côa, where this delicious fish will be able to be delighted.
Serra da Estrela, the city of Guarda, the villages of Almeida, Belmonte and Vilar Formoso are nearby.
A more prolongated ride can take you to the neighboring Spain.
